JuRI’s Advocacy to Promote Civic Space: Submitted a Memorandum to Lumbini Province Government

26 July 2021 Butwal, Rupandehi   JuRI-Nepal and alliances of media organizations (including Federation of Nepalese Journalist) and civic advocates have been conducting regular advocacy to ensure the civic space as per the constitutional spirit. Due to the continued lobby and public pressure from larger CSOs and media organizations, Lumbini Province Government, replaced previous Media Bill and promulgated a new Media Bill with more than 50% of changes. JuRI’s support to Bijayanagar RM to draft GESI Policy

  15 June 2022 Bijaynagar Rural Municipality, Kapilvastu   With the request from Bijayanaagr RM, JuRI provided technical support to Bijayanaagr RM to draft GESI Policy. The policy draft was handed over to Gopal Bahadur Thapa, Chairperson; Govinda Bhattarai, Chief Administrative Officer and Yam Kala Rasmi Magar, Section Head, Women, Children and Social Development on 15 June 2022. With this handover, the Chairperson of the RM has shown his commitment for its endorsement and allocation of sufficient budget for its implementation.

Dialogue with Parliamentarians

30 May, 2022 Kathmandu,   JuRI-Nepal facilitated a dialogue with parliamentarians focusing on statutory limitation on rape case and role of parliamentarians on 30 May 2022.  On behalf of JuRI-Nepal, Advocate Raju Prasad Chapagai presented a paper highlighting statute of limitation, current barriers of access to justice, equality and contentious provisions of laws to harmonize constitutional and legal provisions to ensure human rights and access to justice. Submission of Review Report and Policy Brief to Increase Access of Marginalized Communities in Crops and Livestock Insurance

  JuRI- Nepal submitted its review report and advocacy policy brief on increasing access of marginalized communities in crops and livestock's insurance to Hon'ble Purna Kumari Subedi, Chairperson, Agriculture, Cooperative and Natural Resources Committee of the House of Representative on 23 June 2022. JuRI has reviewed insurance-related laws and policy focusing on rights of marginalized communities. The review was carried out by JuRI-Nepal in collaboration with Indreni Rural Development Centre (IRDC), Kapilbastu and Society Welfare Action Nepal (SWAN), Dang.
