As continuation of previous activities, JuRI has prepared and disseminated this special issue of e-bulletin. This issue is more focused on CSOs role engagement and campaign to ensure human rights friendly laws to make it compatible with human rights principles and norms. This issue has covered submission of recommendations to amend drafted 7 bills and prevailing 3 laws of Nepal including other institutional activities and initiatives.

Former judges of Nepal urged to swiftly implement the Supreme Court verdicts in relation to the peoples left high and dry. There are court decisions and directives to respond to the people affected by cold waves and other issues related to social security. The senior members of the judicial fraternity were speaking at an event jointly organized by the Forum for Former Judges and Justice and Rights Institute Nepal (JuRI-Nepal) in partnership with Alliance for Social Dialogue.

The sixth Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Justice and Rights Institute-Nepal (JuRI-Nepal) concluded Saturday unanimously elected advocate Sharmila Shrestha as the new chairperson. The former executive board member, Ms. Shrestha is a Public Interest Lawyer and Gender Expert by profession. The AGM, according to the JuRI’s charter is the main policy making body. Shyam Kumar Bishwokarma, Pankaj Kumar Karna, Aarati Bista and Indira Shankar have been elected as vice-chairperson, secretary general, secretary and treasurer respectively.

JuRI-Nepal submits its observations and suggestions on Local Government Bill to Honorable Rabindra Adhikari, Chairperson of the Development Committee, Legislature-Parliament. JuRI-Nepal calls on the Committee to revise the bill from social justice and human rights perspective including through strengthening the jurisdiction of Local Judicial Committee and inclusion of additional duties and powers of local governments concerning economic, social and cultural rights.
