Brief report of JuRI’s participation and engagement in – 16 days Campaign against Gender Based Violence, 11th National Magna Meet – 2019 and 71th Int’l Human Rights Day
JuRI-participated in 16 days campaign against gender based violence in Kathmandu:
JuRI-Nepal joined 16 days Campaign against Gender Based Violence with Ujyalo Foundation at Ageno Restaurant, Dhobighat Kathmandu on 7 December, 2019. Ujyalo Foundation, one of the CSO working for women’s human rights approached to JuRI-Nepal to join this event including some other CSOs and JuRI participated in this campaign as one of the campaign member organization and also displayed its solidarity banner with slogan – Samantko Pusta: Balatkar Birudda Ekabaddata and Solidarity for 16 days campaign against GBV and also put a stall to distribute JuRI’s publications where JuRI has distributed 33 copies (leaflet, lesson learnt report and monitoring manuals) of publications to 17 participants. This event was observed by more than 75 participants from diverse CSOs representatives and it was led by Ujayalo Foundation.
As one of the component of this campaign, Advocate Bishnu Pd. Pokhrel, Project Manager of PHDP, JuRI Nepal also participated as one of the guest speaker (panel member) in the plenary discussion on “Legal Framework and Gender-Based Violence; Challenges and Gaps”. Other panel members were Ms. Babita Basnet from Madia Advocacy Group, Ms. Indu Pant Ghimire from Ujyalo Foundation and Ms. Simron Shrestha from Blue Diamond Society. Mr. Pokhrel was invited as legal expert in the program. This event was also participated by Ms. Anuja KC, Mr. Ram Pandey and Ms. Ramita Kattel form JuRI-Nepal.
With this participation, JuRI has been able to transfer its knowledge to other CSO members and it has been introduced as vibrant CSO working for promotion of human rights.
JuRI participated in Opening Ceremony of National Magna Meet: As one of the CSO member of National Magna Meet-2019, JuRI participated in grand opening ceremony of National Magna Meet, led by NGO Federation of Nepal. This program was organized at Rastriya Nachghar, Jamal, Kathmandu on 8 December, 2019. Hon’ble Parbat Gurung, Minister of Women, Child and Senior Citizen attended as chief guest and it was attended by different human rights activists. Mr. Jitram Lama Chairperson of NGO Federation had chaired this program. Mr. Bishnu Pd. Pokhrel, Project Manager of PHDP Project and Mr. Sheni Bdr. Sundar, Capacity Building Expert of JuRI represented this program form JuRI-Nepal. The national slogan of this year was – Digo Bikasko Aadhar : Sabaiko Manab Adhikar. With this participation JuRI has shown its solidarity to celebrate 71th international human rights day and 11th National Magna Meet-2019 in Kathmandu.
JuRI’s participation in Human Rights Day Rally in Kathmandu : As one of the active CSO working in the human rights sector, JuRI has participated in rally with its banner for human rights day celebration on 10 December, 2019, it was led by NGO Federation and also joined by National Human Rights Commission. The rally was started at 8:00 AM from Bhrikutimandap and ended at Shantibatika, Ratnapark in which some of the guests (Ms. Shantalaxmi Shrestha, Chair of BBC, Hon’ble Anup Raj Sharma, Chair of NHRC and Mr. Jitram Lama, Chair of NGO Federation) delivered their remarks on the occasion of human rights day celebration. Mr. Bishnu Pd. Pokhrel, Mr. Kamal Basel, Mr. Ram Pandy and Ms. Ramita Kattel joined this rally form JuRI-Nepal. With this participation, JuRI has introduced it as active CSO member working for human rights sector.
