JuRI-Nepal and implementing partner, Feminist Dalit Organization (FEDO) in collaboration with UN Women is implementing the Project entitled ” Pathways from Trauma to Empowerment – Fostering Social Norms Change Through Storytelling and Collective Mobilization ” in selected 10 LGUs of Kailali, Doti, and Surkhet districts. The project aims to empower women and excluded groups in Nepal by addressing their immediate needs, enhancing their capacity to promote gender equality and social inclusion, improving economic security through sustainable livelihood opportunities, and promoting collective mobilization for leadership and social norm change during the COVID-19 pandemic.

UN Women organized the joint monitoring mission from 8th October to 9th October, 2023 to observe the field level activities implemented by JuRI and FEDO in Surkhet district. The team was comprised by Krista Orama, Gender Advisor, Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Kamana Gurung, Program Coordinator, Embassy of Finland together with Mr. Ramhari Gaire, Under Secretary, Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen. The representative of UN Women, JuRI, FEDO and CDWN were also part of the mission team. The key objective of the visit was:

  1. Observe the field level activities and its impact in the community of the Hamro Shakarya Project.
  2. Identify the gaps and challenges during the activity implementation process.
  3. Prepare a joint monitoring report with the major recommendations for further improvement.

The Mission members  interacted with the members of self-help group, observed the reflection session and had interaction with local government representative in Birendranagar, Bheriganga and Gurbakot Municipalities of Surkhet. The key achievement of this visit was, the mission members have better understanding about the field level activities and also understand how the gender transformative dialogues are playing the role to promote the gender equality.
