Current Projects
At this moment, JuRI has collaborations with four development partners. The brief objective and activities of these projects are as follows;
I. JuRI’s partnership with UN Women: (March 2022 to April 2026)
Project name: Pathways from Trauma to Empowerment
This project is implementing in selected 10 local Government units of Karnali (Surkhet) and Sudurpaschim (Kailali and Doti) Province with funding support from UN Women Nepal and in partnership with Feminist Dalit Organization (FEDO). The main goal of project is to enhanced collective leadership, and socio-economic opportunities of women and marginalized groups to respond post COVID -19 impact and tackle structural gender inequalities in the project areas. The main target beneficiaries of the project are Self Help Groups (SHGs) that constitute poor, most marginalized and excluded women like; single women, women with disability, represent Dalit, Badi community and most vulnerable groups. The key focused activities of the project are; strengthening livelihood opportunities by providing re-skilling training, seed money and community business support, enhancing leadership skills and awareness on discriminative social norms. The SHGs are the entry point to identify community discriminative social norms, gender inequalities through REFLECT techniques, this process will further aware members of SHGs about such issues/problems and unite them to address such issues by developing community action plan at ward, LGUs, district and province level. A series of reflective dialogues, inter-generational dialogues are planned within project to create momentum to address structural gender inequalities at LGUs, district and province level.
II. JuRI’s partnership with IM UNFPA: (March 2024 to June 2026)
Project name: Gender Based Violence Prevention and Response
JuRI has five-year (2024-2027) partnership agreement with UNFPA. This project aims to contributes to implement constitutional mandate, gender equality, promote sexual and reproductive rights of adolescent and youths and it will also support to LGUs to formulate GESI policies and service guidelines to address GBV and harmful practices and contributes in ending child marriage initiatives. The project will support directly to implement Nepal’s 6th plan outlines 10 strategies and 15 programs aimed at achieving Gender equality and women empowerment. This project will directly contribute to goal no. 4. (Education- especially on comprehensive sexuality education component) goal no. 5 (gender equality and women’s empowerment) and goal no. 16 (peace, justice, and strong institutions) of SGD, fifth National Human Rights Action Plan. Similarly, this project will also contribute to achieving the national goal to ensure the right to equality and address GBV and women’s empowerment.
Project activities are being implemented in Koshi, Madhesh, Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpaschim Province including Bagmati for federal level activities. In 2025, project activities are focused in 37 LGUs of 21 districts and most of the project activities are related to technical support in formulating of laws, policies, strategies and guidelines to promote gender responsive and social inclusion agendas as committed in the constitution and subsequent laws of Nepal and also create enabling space to enforce Nepal’s international commitment (i.e. CEDAW, ICPD, ESCR, CERD and CRPD) and UPR mechanism.
III. JuRI’s partnership with DKA: (October 2023 to July 2026)
Project name: Promoting Legal Awareness through Enhancing Capacity of Community Members/leaders for Advancing Role and Responsibilities.
This project is focused to create awareness on women’s human rights highlighting fundamental rights, existing law, policy, program and enable them to claim these rights using existing instrument and tools. To achieve this goal the project is developing user’s handbook and ToT manual focusing to women leaders to create awareness on enjoyment of fundamental and legal rights of women and capacitate them to claim the rights.
The program is implementing in selected local government unit of Kailali, Kanchanpur and Jumla district.
IV. JuRI’s partnership with The Asia Foundation: (April 2025 to December 2026)
Project name: Strengthening Intergovernmental Constitutional Dispute Settlement Mechanisms through Comparative Learning Sharing.
The project advanced accountable subnational governance by generating evidence on key federalization challenges. Through research, consultations, and peer review, two priority areas were identified, intergovernmental relation and dispute settlement mechanism and greenwashing, both aimed at strengthening accountability and the effective exercise of provincial and local governments’ jurisdictional mandates. Complementary initiatives, such as interaction programs on mediation and access to justice, enhanced local dispute resolution practices and awareness. The main objective of the project is to strengthen the intergovernmental constitutional dispute settlement mechanisms and promoting strong, functional and accountable sub-national governance pursuit through knowledge generation and public interests’ litigation. The project also This addresses these critical gaps by strengthening District courts’ supervisory functions by developing the supervisory manual for district court judges.
