Dialogue with National Planning Commission to Focus on ESCR Issues

JuRI study panel suggests Lumbini province to amend Associations Registration Act 

6 November, 2021 JuRI Nepal conducted research on Association Registration (Lumbini Province)-2075, the law introduced to regulate non-governmental organizations, and provided feedback to the provincial government on how to address the concerns raised by the non-governmental sector. A group of legal and administrative experts have completed the research by applying comparative and analytical methods. Nepal’s constitution, federal association registration law, UN convention, commitments made by the Government of Nepal in international platforms and other international laws were reviewed before submitting the report to the authorities concerned. CSOs urge Lumbini Province seek to amend disputed media law  

26 July, 2021 KATHMANDU, Nepal Civil society organizations working in the field of Media, Human rights and civic space have urged the Internal Affairs and Law Ministry of Lumbini Province to begin consultation with the stakeholders concerned to discuss the proposed media law before its endorsement. Some of the provisions of the bill, according to the rights bodies, are against the spirit of Nepal’s existing Constitution and curtails media freedom and personal freedom of expression. ESCR Lumbini Network demands amendment of association registration 

23 November, 2021 KATHMANDU, Nepal Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Lumbini Province Network Nepal representing twenty-one Civil Society Organizations including JuRI  Nepal on November 24 handed over a letter of memorandum to Lumbini Province government demanding to amend Association Registration Act-2075 enacted by Lumbini Province. The memorandum was submitted to the Law, Women, Children and Senior Citizen Ministry of the province after provisions of association registration law courted controversy in the media reports. Pre-budget suggestions for promoting ESCR

April 16, 2021 Scores of civil society organizations working for promoting economic, social and cultural rights of the people on April 16 submitted a pre-budget suggestion paper to Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Poudel  requesting the government to unveil a human rights friendly budget. This was done aimed at protecting the people’s social security and saving them from deepening COVID-19 pandemic.
