Hon’ble Mr. Surendra Raj Acharya, Minister of Women, Child and Senior Citizens has shown his commitment to address ongoing issues and challenges facing by CSOs to promote civic and democratic space and also shown his commitment to expedite formulation of new umbrella law.

JuRI-Nepal has submitted the CSOs position paper on need for a new law to promote civic space and CSOs recommendations today. Submission paper has heighted major issues and challenges and also suggested some specific points to promote civic and democratic space aiming to formulation of new umbrella law to repeal discriminatory provisions and practices as ensured by the constitution, federal laws and Nepal’s international commitment.

The position paper was drafted in collaboration with ESCR National Network members and NGO Federation of Nepal. During the drafting, series of consultation events were conducted to get CSOs inputs.  The full text of the position paper in Nepali language is available here.
